About the Fortis Fellowship
Applications are now open for the 2027 Fortis Fellowship, the entry pathway for new members joining the Fortis Society. The fellowship brings together ambitious individuals from humble beginnings who aspire to make a significant, positive impact in their communities and beyond.
The five-month programme provides fellows with opportunities to build meaningful relationships with peers, receive mentorship from established members, and participate in professional learning workshops. The fellowship concludes with two days of cohort programming in Medellín, Colombia, followed by the Fortis Summit in June 2027.
Upon completing the fellowship and attending the Summit, fellows become lifelong members of the Fortis Society, joining a network of individuals committed to supporting one another and creating positive change.
The programme welcomes applicants who demonstrate ambition, a commitment to improving other people’s lives, and the determination to achieve meaningful results despite the challenges they have faced. Applicants do not need a nomination or institutional endorsement to apply.
Who Can Apply?
The Fortis Fellowship is open to individuals from humble beginnings who have the ambition and potential to make a significant, positive impact. The selection process considers applicants’ achievements in the context of the opportunities, resources, and circumstances available to them.
The Fortis Society evaluates candidates against four core pillars:
1. Humble Beginnings
Applicants should demonstrate how their background and personal circumstances have shaped their journey. The Society is interested in individuals who have had to find their own way, overcome barriers, and pursue opportunities that may not have been readily available to them.
2. An Altruistic Focus
Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to improving the lives of others. This contribution does not have to come through nonprofit work or a role specifically focused on social impact. Positive contributions can emerge from a wide range of fields, including healthcare, law, government, education, the arts, finance, small businesses, and startups.
3. Ambition at Scale
Applicants should have a clear vision of the change they want to create and demonstrate that they have already taken meaningful steps towards achieving it. The selection committee considers both the scale of a candidate’s ambitions and the progress they have made with the resources available to them.
4. Generosity
The Fortis Society values individuals who are willing to support others, share knowledge, make introductions, and contribute to the success of fellow members. Applicants should demonstrate a willingness to give back to the network and help others progress.
What the Fellowship Offers
Selected fellows will benefit from a five-month programme designed to support personal and professional development through:
- Mentorship: Each fellow is paired with a member of the Society who provides guidance and support.
- Professional learning: Participate in workshops that help develop professional skills, knowledge, and capabilities.
- Peer networking: Build relationships with other fellows who share a commitment to ambition, service, and positive impact.
- Cohort programming: Participate in two days of programming in Medellín, Colombia.
- Fortis Summit: Attend the Summit in June 2027 and engage with the broader Society network.
- Lifelong membership: Following the fellowship and Summit, fellows become lifelong members of the Fortis Society.
Cohort programming and the Summit are funded for fellows. Applicants should consult the official application materials for any additional details about funding coverage and travel arrangements.

1. Resume or portfolio
Submit a resume or portfolio that best demonstrates your experience, achievements, work, and progress to date.

Answer three short questions about your background, where you started, and where you want to go. These responses should communicate your personal journey, ambitions, and commitment to creating positive change.
